High limit slots: a guide to the rooms, the games and what a spin costs
What is considered a high limit slot?
A high limit slot is a machine in a separate room where the lowest bet per spin sits well above the main floor, commonly from $5 a spin upward, with each casino drawing its own line.
Tiers are examples, not any venue's official list. The gauge runs on to $1,000. As of October 2026.
Cost-of-a-spin calculator
This high limit slots guide opens with a calculator, because the cost of a spin is the first thing most readers want to know. Set the bet, the pace and the time. The calculator multiplies them and shows two numbers: what passes through the machine, and what the machine is expected to keep at the house edge you enter. Switch on compare mode to put a second bet on the gauge and read both side by side.
The same arithmetic, with the Nevada win-percent table beside it, is in the cost-per-hour guide.
What high limit means, in plain terms
A high limit slot is a machine whose minimum bet puts it in a room of its own. High limit slot machines are grouped that way by each casino, not by any rule. This guide uses $5 a spin as its lowest example tier, and the gauge on this page runs from $1 up to $1,000. Two different numbers get called "the limit," which is where most of the confusion comes from.
The denomination is the value of one credit on the machine, such as a nickel, a quarter or a dollar. The bet per spin is that value times the number of credits wagered on one spin. A dollar machine played at 25 credits costs $25 a spin even though the screen says $1. High limit rooms are usually described by the second number, because that is what leaves your pocket on every press of the button.
What high limit slots are, with minimums and denominations, has the longer version of this section.
What is considered a high limit in Vegas?
There is no single Las Vegas number. Each resort sets its own room minimum, so the answer is a range for each room, dated. As of October 2026, only Bellagio's own page states a bet range for a high limit slot room. Aria gives a range for its whole casino floor and does not tie slots to its lounge:
- Bellagio
- Bets from $5 to $1,000 in its slot lounge, per the resort.
- Aria
- A penny to $5,000 across the whole casino floor, per the resort. The lounge page does not mention slots.
- Venetian
- No minimum published. Over 100 machines in the salon, per the resort.
- Wynn
- No minimum published. Slots up to $1,000 a play across the whole casino, per the resort.
How rooms set their own minimum
Some rooms post a minimum denomination on the entrance sign or the machine, some post a minimum bet, and some simply rope off a section and let the machine mix speak for itself. A room's own sign beats any article, this one included. The rooms page records what each resort's own web page says, with its date, and says plainly when a resort publishes no minimum.
What changes as the tiers go up
Higher tiers can bring a different machine mix and different rules for who may sit down, and each casino decides both. Wynn, for one, says its slots run in denominations up to $1,000 per play. The machine still decides each spin with a random number generator. A bigger bet changes what the spin costs, not how the spin is decided.
What an hour moves through the machine
Wagered per hour is the bet times the pace. Nothing in the table is a result or a prediction. It is the same multiplication the calculator runs, set out for the four tiers and the top of the gauge.
Method note
Every figure here comes from multiplication. Total wagered is the bet, times spins per hour, times hours. The expected cost is total wagered times the house edge you type in. The spin pace and the edge are assumptions, because they differ by machine and by player. The result is a long-run average and says nothing about tonight.
| Bet per spin | Spins an hour | Wagered an hour |
|---|---|---|
| $5 | 500 | $2,500 |
| $25 | 500 | $12,500 |
| $100 | 500 | $50,000 |
| $500 | 500 | $250,000 |
| $1,000 | 500 | $500,000 |
Las Vegas high limit rooms
Four Strip resorts come up first in nearly every conversation about high limit rooms in Las Vegas. Each has its own entrance, minimums and machine mix, and changes them over time.

Venues define "high limit" for themselves, so this page never states one number for the whole city. Where a threshold appears on the rooms page, it names whose it is, shows a range instead of a single figure and carries the date it was checked. The casino's own sign on the day always outranks a guide. For how people behave in these rooms, see the etiquette guide.
A guide to the games you will see in high limit rooms
A small group of titles turns up again and again on high limit floors. Here is what each one is, without the artwork.
- Dragon Link
An Aristocrat series built on the Lightning Link platform, with a Hold & Spin bonus and games set up for several denominations.
Dragon Link guide - Buffalo
An Aristocrat animal-themed series. Buffalo Link pairs Hold & Spin with a free-feature meter, and Mega Stampede titles add stampede meters.
Buffalo guide - Lightning Link
An Aristocrat series built around a Hold & Spin round, with a linked progressive Grand jackpot on its titles.
Lightning Link guide - Spooky Link
An Aristocrat game with a Halloween theme and a Cash Collect bonus. It is not built on the Lightning Link platform.
Spooky Link guide
What a game is called says little about what a spin costs. The same title can sit on a $1 denomination and on a much higher one, and the maximum bet per spin is set by the machine and the casino together.
Do high limit slots pay better?
Not by rule.
A higher minimum bet does not by itself make a machine loosen up, and nobody should treat a room of high limit slot machines as a promise of better returns.
Return to player, or RTP, is the share of all wagers a game is built to give back over a very large number of spins. It is a long-run average, set by the game's design and by the setting a casino chooses within what the regulator allows. Without the paytable and the setting in front of you, there is no way to tell from the room alone.
Volatility is the other half of the picture. A high volatility game pays less often and in larger pieces. At high bet sizes that swing is amplified: a short stretch can end well above or well below the average, and the dollar amounts at $500 or $1,000 a spin are large either way.

Questions about high limit slots
What is considered a high limit slot?
A machine in a separate room or area with a minimum bet well above the main floor. This guide uses $5 a spin as its lowest example tier, but the casino sets the line and can move it. Always check the posted minimum.
What is considered a high limit in Vegas?
Each resort defines it for itself, so there is no single Las Vegas number. The rooms page lists a posted range for each property, each with an as-of date. As of October 2026, treat any figure as a snapshot.
Can anyone walk into high limit slots rooms?
Many rooms are open to any guest who is 21 or older, but rules differ by casino. Some tie certain areas or services to a players club tier. Ask at the entrance or the host desk.
Do high limit slot machines pay better?
Not by rule. RTP depends on the game and the casino's setting, and a bigger bet does not change how a spin is decided. See the section above and the full guide for how to read a paytable.
What's the $20 rule on slot machines?
There is no official $20 rule. No machine, casino or regulator publishes one, and no single source defines the phrase. When players use it, it is usually a personal budget habit: decide a small, fixed amount before sitting down and stop when it is gone. Different people mean different things by it. Casino.org, for one, describes its "$20 slot method" as an informal habit, not a rule.
What were some of the most recent high limit slot plays?
No single source lists them, and this site does not track or rank individual plays. Some large plays are posted in videos or reported locally, but the poster chooses what to show, so it is a sample of the interesting ones and not the whole picture. A recent play says nothing about the next spin, because each spin is independent.
How much does an hour of high limit slots cost?
It depends on three things you control: the bet, the pace and the time. At an assumed 500 spins an hour, a $25 bet moves $12,500 through the machine each hour. Use the calculator to set your own numbers, or compare two bets.
Can I play high limit slots for free?
Demo and sweepstakes-style play let you try similar games without a cash stake. Terms vary, so read them first. The free-to-play section explains what to look for.
How this page keeps its numbers honest
Set the limit first, in time and in dollars.
Every dollar figure in this high limit slots guide is either arithmetic you can redo or a range labeled as an assumption, with the date it was set. Facts about a specific room carry an as-of date and a pointer to where they came from. When a casino changes a limit, the date on the entry tells you how old it is.
